MSNBC reporting this afternoon as the verdict came out on the 34 felony counts against former President, Donald Trump, in the hush money case against him. Donald Trump is the first president to be charged on felony counts, and to stand trial, after his presidency. This was an unknown for the U.S., could a former president be indicted, and stand trial? In this time of incredible political polarization, Democracy itself has been under attack, and many wondered if the rule of law could stand up to this test. This afternoon we found that it could, and that no one is above the law in the united States.
This is not a political blog, by any means, but this is a major point in U.S. history, and I just wanted to document it here in my blog. Donald J. Trump lost the popular vote by over 2.7 million votes in 2016, to Hillary Clinton. But he won the Electoral College, and became president of the United States in 2016.. Trump became the first U.S. president to be impeached twice while in office, but remained in office for his full term.
In 2020, Donald Trump lost the popular election by more than 7 million votes to Joe Biden, and also lost the electoral college, and Joe Biden took office.
Now, May 30th, 2024, Donald Trump has been found guilty on 34 felony counts related to hush money payments to keep his affair with porn star Stormy Daniels quiet, heading into the 2016 election.
